Whether you’re looking to explore a new hobby, frame your own artwork, or start the journey toward a creative business, our One Day Beginners Picture Framing Course is the perfect introduction to the craft.

Run in our fully equipped professional workshop at Pen Hill Framing, this one-day course is ideal for complete beginners. With a maximum of two participants per session, you’ll receive personalised tuition tailored to your interests, pace, and objectives. We also offer one-to-one sessions for those who prefer a more intensive, bespoke experience.

Throughout the day, you’ll gain a solid grounding in the fundamental skills of picture framing, using high-quality tools and materials. You’ll work on a piece of your own – whether it’s a photograph, print, watercolour, or other flat artwork – and take home a beautifully finished, professionally framed piece by the end of the course.

What You’ll Learn:

• Introduction to different types of mounts and frames
• Measuring and cutting mounts
• Glass cutting and safe handling
• Frame assembly using a guillotine and joining techniques
• Backing, sealing, and final presentation
• An overview of tools, materials, and equipment used in professional framing

We’ll guide you through the entire process step by step, making sure you’re confident with each stage. You’ll also get plenty of tips on choosing the right materials and tools if you’re considering continuing the craft at home.

All tools and materials are provided, and tea, coffee, and light refreshments are available throughout the day. Bring your own piece of artwork to frame (maximum size A3), or we can provide something for practice.

Price – £295 for one person or £395 for two people. Course runs from 10.00am – 4.00pm and sometimes a little longer depending on questions.

Advanced Picture Framing Course

Build on Your Skills with Bespoke Professional Training over 1, 2 or 3 days

Already familiar with the basics of picture framing and want to take your skills to the next level? Our Advanced Picture Framing Course is designed for those with some previous experience who are ready to refine their techniques, tackle more complex projects, or develop framing as a business or creative service.

Taught in a one-to-one or two-person format, this course is completely tailored to your goals. Whether you’re a hobbyist looking to master conservation techniques, an artist wanting to frame your own work professionally, or an aspiring framer exploring commercial possibilities, we’ll build the day around your specific needs.

You’ll work in our fully equipped professional workshop at Pen Hill Framing and gain access to expert tuition, hands-on support, and high-quality tools and materials.

Possible Areas of Focus:

• Conservation and archival framing techniques
• Shadow boxes and 3D object framing
• Multi-aperture and float mounting
• Framing textiles, canvas, or unusual media
• Equipment advice for setting up your own workshop
• Pricing, materials sourcing, and advice on turning framing into a business

This course is highly flexible – whether you want to focus on one specialised technique or develop a range of advanced skills, we’ll work with you to shape the content accordingly.

You’ll leave the course with greater confidence, deeper technical knowledge, and a framed piece (or two) that showcases your progress. We can also offer continued support and advice after the course if you plan to pursue picture framing further.

As with all our courses, all tools and materials are provided, along with refreshments throughout the day.

Prices – £350.00 for one person or £450 for two people per day. Courses run from 10.00am – 5.00pm each day.
